Westinghouse Silverliner OV-15
394P854G82 175w MV (Silver)(07-73)
Fixture's Information.
I got this from a good friend in Maryland. He got it from an utility company last year and he held on to it until I was able to get it from him in 05/08/10. It work beautifully. Even after 40 years in service and being shot at numerous times. Built like a battle tank and it feels like it.
Fixture's Size.
Showing the size of the Silverliner compared to a standard 12OZ soda can. I showed this fixture to my friends and they were amazed of the large size of it. This is a small sized streetlight. Yes they get bigger than this!
ID Tag.
The label showing the info about this Silverliner. Yeah I know it doesn't say Silverliner on the label but that's what they were called back in the old days. The label shows the date code GG which is July 1973. It shows the lamp it use, it can use only one type of lamp as long it have H-39 on it somewhere. Other lamps can burn up the ballast or blow up the lamp itself.
Lamp Included.
Okay, this Silverliner didn't have a lamp in it when I got it. So I decided to add a modern Westinghouse MV lamp. It's not a real Westinghouse lamp. A company bought out the Westinghouse logo so they exported Chinese and other countries lamps branded as Westinghouse. The real Westinghouse company went belly-up back in the 80s. Philips Lighting bought out the machinery used to make lamps.
At least this lamp is one of the few modern good quality lamps.

Lens Used.
The Silverliner didn't have a lens included so my friend in MD added one for me. Old lens was either kept by the utility company or it was shot out by vandals. It either had a plastic Westinghouse lens or a glass one.
The lens used is a Formed Plastic Model 516-1. It's a bit beat up but still good. Lens is Polycarbonate.

Slip Fitter & Cord.
Here's the slip fitter which holds the streetlight to the arm which is mounted on the pole. The power cord was added by my friend in MD.
Lamp Holder.
This is mounted on house side of the streetlight. It's a Mogul screw base lampholder. Larger than the normal household lampholder. Label used to be on there. It had 175w written on it in large bold letters. It helps the lineman to find out what lamp he's supposed to be replacing.
Ballast Area.
Here you see the ballast used in the silverliner. It's larger than the modern ones of the same wattage. They built them to last! Ballast is silent even after 40 years of nightly use! Unlike most modern ballasts which seems to die in two or three years.
Gray thing below the lampholder is the capacitor which connects in series with the lamp.
The white thing between the ballast and slip fitter is the terminal block. This is where you make the connections.

Ballast.
Here's the ballast used. It can be either wired for 120v or 240v depending on the incoming power. It doesn't have much rust on it. The light didn't have a grounding screw on it so I used one of the ballast's screw.
The black round thing next to it is the photo cell socket base.

Photo Cell Socket.
This is where the Photo Cell is inserted. The photo cell is used to turn on and off the light fixture if it's dark or light.
Photo Cell Included.
Not an original Photo Cell.
Lit Up.
Here's it lit up. Nice and bright ain't it. Should last a couple decades if I decide to hang it up on a pole. Lot longer than the yard lights seen all over the place.
